SUMMARY:Rally and Lobby Day to Save Transit\, Affordable Housing\, Clean Air & Clean Water Programs throughout California
DESCRIPTION:Newsom Appointees defunded affordable housing\, public transit\, clean air\, clean water\, and other climate investments by taking away $2 billion to turn the state’s leading climate program into a slush fund for Big Oil. \nWe cannot let them get away with that. \nJoin us in Sacramento to demand that the State Legislature reverse these cuts! RSVP using the form here! \nWe will rally on August 10th at 12:30 at the west steps of the Capitol Building in Sacramento. Following the rally\, we will meet with legislators in the Capitol to tell them about what affordable housing\, public transit\, clean air\, and clean water mean for our communities \nRSVP using the form so we can plug you into meetings with your State Representatives. \nHere’s the situation: In May\, the California Air Resources Board (CARB) approved a change to the Cap-and-Invest program that means $2 billion per year in lost funding for critical climate and affordability investments. \nThis vote put essential funding at risk. It includes changes that create a new incentive for large polluting industries\, which could result in up to an additional $4 billion in subsidies to corporations rather than to the programs that benefit the daily lives of Californians. \nPrograms defunded because of Newsom’s Appointees’ decision include: \n\nCalifornia’s most important affordable housing program\nFree/reduced transit fare programs for people with disabilities\, older adults\, and children\nBus service for marginalized communities\nExtending rail service to more communities\nHelping transit agencies switch to zero-emissions buses\nAccess to clean drinking water for Californians in households without it\nCalifornia’s only program dedicated to helping communities clean their air\n\nCommunities in every part of California directly benefit from these programs. Due to the decisions made by Newsom’s appointees\, ALL Californians are hurting. \nThe Solution: The State Legislature can still step in and undo these disastrous cuts and reprioritize the investments in these programs\, as outlined in previous legislation\, to ensure these critical community programs are first in line for funding. \nComing in from the Bay Area\, or Davis and looking for information on how to take public transit to the rally in Sacramento? Details will be automatically sent to people who RSVP. \nhttps://actionnetwork.org/events/emergency-rally-to-save-transit-affordable-housing-clean-air-clean-water-programs-throughout-california?
