We know that people from the global south are the least responsible for climate change. Now a study from Stanford documents the reality that the global south is suffering the most from the warming that they did not cause. As reported in Stanford News, and many other outlets, poor countries have suffered a 30% drop in national productivity due to heatwaves and other impacts of climate change over the past 50 years. Meanwhile, northerly countries have actually benefitted by increasing temperatures. In this way global warming is increasing global suffering and global inequality.
This is further evidence that the countries who have caused this global crisis have to take responsibility to solve it.
Time for a Global Green New Deal!
