Corporate Organizing

Our mission

We want to address the issue of climate change action from a corporate angle. Some of the biggest polluters and consumers of natural resources (aka contributors to climate change) are corporate entities. Many large corporations also fund climate destructive activity, such as fossil fuel industries. Governments are somewhat beholden to the way that people vote – individuals are in charge of their own lifestyles – but corporate activity often feels out of reach of the influence of concerned individuals. We want to change that.

How will we affect change?

Plenty of people who work at these companies care about the planet and would like for their own companies to make changes (go green, divest from fossil fuels, etc.) but don’t feel empowered to demand those changes themselves. We’re asking, how can we empower people in this position to take charge and organize for a better future? So far, our first answer is a Guide.

Who we are

We are a group of mid-career professionals who are passionate about inspiring corporations to take meaningful climate actions. We work at a range of companies, including startups, non-profits, and large corporations from a range of industries: technology, sustainability, healthcare, entertainment, and finance.

What do we need help with?

We need to finish the guide, format it in an accessible way, make it available to the public (online) and get it into the hands of people who may be able to use it (not sure how we’ll do this exactly yet). We’re also working on collaborating with other climate action groups (outside of 350 Bay Area) to better accomplish these goals.

How do we work?

We have meetings every two weeks on Google Meet. These usually last 30 minutes. We give updates about what we have accomplished in the past week as well as talking about current events as they relate to our work, or ideas we have. When we’re able to, we occasionally have in-person working sessions where we can connect over our goals and accomplish a burst of progress together.

Sustainability Playbook for Business

Currently, we’re working towards publishing a guide for how to start an organized movement toward climate sustainability within your workplace. We’re targeting large and medium-sized companies local to the bay area to start with, but we could expand past that someday.

This guide will help you:

  • Navigate climate change conversations with your fellow employees
  • Engage your employer in an effective and productive manner, with a goal of generating action on climate change
