Community Choice Energy (CCE) programs have started up everywhere in the Bay Area and much of California now, providing a way to get more clean, renewable energy into the grid faster than what investor-owned utilities (IOU’s) can by themselves. Above you see the very recent opening of the very local “Novato Sol” 1 MW solar farm in an old quarry in the City of Novato. We are here, in this campaign, supporting this growth of community choice energy in whatever way we can as a kind of energy democracy for all the people.  Through fighting all attempts by the utilities and their friends to alter policy at the CPUC that makes it more difficult for CCE’s and fighting against every effort the IOU’s and their friends make in the state legislature to do the same thing, while championing those bills that assist CCE’s, we continue to support the efforts of the state to reach the goal of 50% carbon-free energy by 2025, 60% by 2030, and 100% by 2045, all set by passage of SB100 in 2018, and Greenhouse Gas Emissions (GHG) 40% below 1990 levels by 2030 as well as Governor Brown’s September 2018 Executive Order setting California’s goal of getting to carbon neutrality by at least 2045.
