SUMMARY:Montezuma LLC Carbon Capture Project- Zoom presentation by Dr. Bonnie Hamilton
DESCRIPTION:Join us on Sunday\, July 21 from 3:00 to 4:00 pm for a presentation by Dr. Bonnie Hamilton on the Montezuma LLC Carbon Capture Project. The project intends to “capture” CO2 from fossil fuel facilities in Contra Costa and Solano counties\, then transport it via barge and pipeline\, large portions of which would be under the Carquinez Strait\, and inject it near the recently restored Montezuma Wetlands in east Solano County. \nDr. Hamilton will update us on why the transport of CO2—not only the collection and storage—is raising concerns\, and provide a brief update on the project status. \nThe Montezuma NorCal CarbonHub plans to collect and sequester one million tons per year of CO2 from multiple power plants and refineries within 45 miles of Montezuma’s dumping site; transport the CO2 by barge and/or underwater pipeline to Montezuma’s existing offloading dock on the Sacramento River\, and then by on-site pipeline to the proposed injection site. The company also plans to “re-use” existing natural gas pipelines\, a process that is not sufficiently regulated. \nCarbon capture and storage (CCUS) is problematic in and of itself\, but coupled with the safety problems and potential for environmental damage inherent in transporting CO2 across distances\, this could be a disaster in the making—especially to our vulnerable wetlands and local communities. \nWe hope to see you there! Join us HERE on Zoom for this interesting and sobering presentation and discussion.

SUMMARY:The Deadly Trade in Oil and Gas by Bill McKibben
DESCRIPTION:Join Bill McKibben\, Schumann Distinguished Scholar at Middlebury College\, for a Weinstock Lecture on The Deadly Trade in Oil and Gas. \nThis lecture will examine how the export of hydrocarbons\, in particular\, has become an enormous threat to efforts to rein in greenhouse gasses\, and the role that America–the world’s biggest exporter of gas–plays in this ongoing catastrophe. SUMMARY:Hands Off! Mass Mobilization
DESCRIPTION:Americans are fed up with the Musk-Trump power grab and want an end to the lawless raiding of our government. “Hands off!” is a simple rallying cry against an administration that’s dangerously overreaching and throwing our democracy\, our economy\, and for many — our private lives — into chaos. \nDay by day\, the energy has been growing. People are waking up to the threat Trump\, Musk\, and MAGA Republicans pose to our rights\, our livelihoods\, and our democracy. Dozens are showing up at Tesla dealerships weekend after weekend. Hundreds are turning out for town hall meetings with their Members of Congress. Thousands are coming together for protests at state capitols. Now\, the time has come for a massive\, coordinated show of defiance all across the country. In San Francisco\, several organizations are holding a rally in solidarity with actions  across the country\, to publicize the damage being done by the Trump regime and to unify its resistance. \nA core principle behind Hands Off! is a commitment to nonviolent action. We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values. \nSign up at https://buff.ly/BgIjlKO\, \nSign up to volunteer at https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSe2sYtqA9sLsL4hMFv49QiWEjm1d_ljyPb8cAIKpeNpsoovKw/viewform

SUMMARY:Youth-Led Climate Strike: Make Polluters Pay!
DESCRIPTION:On Friday\, April 11th\, we’re taking to the streets as part of the Fridays for Future Global Climate Strike to demand that California lawmakers Make Polluters Pay! We demand that the biggest fossil fuel polluters pay their fair share for the climate destruction they’ve caused—rather than leaving taxpayers to cover the cost. \nThe climate crisis is here\, and Big Oil is making billions while we pay the price. Californians are dealing with wildfires\, floods\, skyrocketing insurance rates\, and crumbling infrastructure—all while fossil fuel companies rake in profits. It’s time to fight back.  \nLocation: Crocker Park\, with a short march to the Capitol building \nTime: 11:00 AM \nWe need YOU to help us send a clear message: Polluters must pay! Show up\, support\, and raise your voice for climate action.

SUMMARY:Rally for Our Future: Make Polluters Pay!
DESCRIPTION:Join us on the Friday before Earth Day 2025 to Rally For Our Future: Make Polluters Pay! \nCome for an empowering and impactful climate justice rally at King Plaza (250 Hamilton Ave\, Palo Alto) in Palo Alto on Friday\, April 18th\, from 5-6:30 pm. We will be rallying in support of Earth Day and the effort to hold major polluters accountable\, specifically in support of CA SB 684/AB 1243 (a bill that would establish a Climate Superfund that would require large polluters to pay for their damages\, reducing the taxpayer burden and funding robust state-level climate resiliency and clean energy endeavors).\nThis student-organized and led rally will feature diverse speakers\, live music from local bands\, local art\, and community organizations from across the Bay Area. \nGiven the Trump administration’s deliberate work to derail environmental protections and further perpetuate the harms of the climate crisis\, we cannot be complacent. Let’s use our voices in a way that can result in real change for our community and our planet by supporting climate progress in California. \nOur amazing co-sponsors include the Center for Biological Diversity\, Peninsula Peace and Justice Center (PPJC)\, Fridays for Future Palo Alto\, 350 Bay Area Action\, 350 Silicon Valley Action\, 350 Sacramento\, Sunrise Bay Area\, Canopy\, Palo Alto Forward\, Gunn Green Team\, and the Oil and Gas Network (OGAN). \nDon’t miss this opportunity to make an impact and show your support for the environment! SUMMARY:Polluters Pay Youth Walkout Adult Mentor Training
DESCRIPTION:On October 24th\, young people across California will host school walkouts to say: “Youth Demand Climate Action!” and pressure legislators to support the Polluters Pay Climate Superfund\, a California bill that would make the largest fossil fuel polluters pay for the climate damages they’ve caused. By filling out this form\, we can connect you with youth who expressed interest in planning at their school\, and resources to assist them in their planning process! \n\nThis role would start with attending an adult mentor training on Tuesday\, September 9th from 6-7pm. You would then get paired with youth leaders at a middle school\, high school\, or college in your area and you would work with them one-on-one to provide guidance\, mentorship\, and help with anything they need to plan their walkout. This could include helping them with a timeline\, outreach\, supplies\, logistics\, negotiating with their school administration\, and anything else they need help with. It would be around a 1-2 hour time commitment per week depending on the needs of your student mentee\, with likely more help needed closer to October 24th. \n\n\nRegister for the training here.\nIndicate interest in being an Adult Mentor here.
