SUMMARY:Climate Change Won’t Wait – We Can’t Either! Donate to 350 Bay Area Today
DESCRIPTION:350 Bay Area is accelerating the fossil fuel endgame. Fossil fuel pollution and climate disasters are already disrupting millions of lives. We need a world beyond fossil fuels: a world in which workers’ rights\, community health\, and our shared climate come before corporate profits. 350 Bay Area is front-and-center in raising awareness\, and enacting\, local climate solutions. This is our 10 year anniversary\, support us to address climate change for this next\, critical decade! \nOrganizing works. California was the first state to ban the sale of gas-powered cars by 2035; now many states are expected to follow. Berkeley was the first city to ban methane gas in new construction\, and now most cities in California have followed suit. The Bay Area is an economic and cultural powerhouse that can be an exemplary model of climate solutions that get adopted across the country and world. \nDon’t Wait! Invest in Climate Solutions with 350 Bay Area Today During the 72 Hour $120\,000 Challenge\nGo to www.350bayarea.org/donate\n  \nWe need your help. To get more achieved at the speed and scale necessary to meet this moment\, we need more people taking action\, and more funding for this team. We have all of the solutions we need to curb climate change\, we just need the people power to create political will for climate solutions. \nDouble your impact: Your donation will be matched 100% during this Challenge event\, making your support TWICE as impactful today. We have matching funds pledged to $60\,000 – help us meet our goal of $120\,000! \nInvest in our future with 350 Bay Area today! The more funding\, energy\, and organizing we put into the climate movement now\, the more it will pay off later. We can solve this\, but we have to start now and we need everyone pitching in. \nPlease match the urgency of this moment by donating TODAY – don’t wait! THANK YOU!! \nGo to www.350bayarea.org/donate

SUMMARY:SF Supervisor Awards
DESCRIPTION:You’re invited to join 350SF in awarding the title of Climate Champion to three outstanding San Franciscans Supervisors in appreciation of their work with the Climate/Environmental Justice community. \nWHEN Friday\, Oct 7th\, 1:30 – 2:30 pm \nWHERE City Hall steps\, facing Civic Center Plaza \nThis year the laurels go to Supervisors Rafael Mandelman\, Gordon Mar\, and Myrna Melgar \nWith this recognition\, we let them know we remember their contributions and we can’t wait to work with them in the future to fund and implement the Climate Action Plan. \n \nThese Supervisors have introduced and supported legislation\, resolutions\, and have held hearings on many issues related to climate and environmental justice. They have pushed for support of the Department of the Environment (SFE) and the implementation and funding of our Climate Action Plan. \nSupervisor Mandelman authored the city’s Climate Emergency Declaration in 2019\, and since then he has been there pushing to make the city’s Climate Action Plan happen. In 2021 he authored the All-electric New Construction Ordinance so we can stop using explosive methane and instead power our homes and appliances with clean electricity. He worked with a coalition of groups on the Climate Equity Hub. When the Climate Action Plan funding was left out of the Mayor’s budget\, he was a strong partner helping to get funds back. \nSupervisor Mar co-sponsored the 2019 Climate Emergency Declaration and the 2021 All-Electric New Construction Ordinance. His office worked over the last year and continues to work on supporting and funding implementation the Climate Action Plan. He has focused strongly on existing buildings\, commissioning a 2021 report from the Budget & Legislative Analyst on decarbonizing residential buildings\, and worked with community organizations on the design of a Climate Equity Hub to facilitate that work. When the Mayor left Climate Action Plan funding out of her budget\, Supervisor Mar successfully led the way for the Supervisors to add back the funds for the Department of the Environment. \nSupervisor Melgar authored and pushed for the Ban on Gas-Powered Landscaping Equipment. She constructed it carefully. She kept her eye on equity and built the ban in consultation with landscapers\, owners\, equipment vendors and independent contractors and their workers.  Success crowned this effort – her ordinance just passed the full Board of Supervisors. She has also held hearings each year to bring attention to the slow progress of City fleet electrification and accelerate it. \nWHO ELSE WILL BE AT THE PARTY? \nOrganizations signed on so far include: 1000 Grandmothers for Future Generations\, 350 San Francisco\, SPUR\, California Native Plant Society\, Charge across Town\, Citizens Climate Lobby\, Climate Action Now\, Climate Reality Project\, Friends of the Urban Forest\, Greenaction for Health and Environmental Justice\, Jobs With Justice\, Mothers Out Front San Francisco\, Plastic Free Fridays\, Plastic Free Future\, San Francisco Climate Emergency Coalition\, San Francisco Tomorrow\, SPUR\, and Sutro Stewards. \nPlease join us at City Hall to hear some speeches and present the award certificates to our favorite Supervisors. \nWHEN Friday\, Oct 7th\, 1:30 – 2:30 pm \nWHERE SF City Hall steps\, facing Civic Center Plaza

SUMMARY:Attend the Air District Meeting to Support Pollution-Free Electric Appliances
DESCRIPTION:o cut lung-damaging air pollution from gas appliances in homes\, on March 15th regulators at the Bay Area Air Quality Management District will vote on a first-in-the-nation standard that will begin phasing out the sale of polluting heating appliances later this decade. The new standard would have major implications for regional air quality and public health\, particularly for communities of color and low-income communities living on the frontlines of the Bay Area’s air quality crisis. \nThe standard will apply when a consumer would already be replacing a burned-out appliance — it wouldn’t require anyone to remove working appliances. Analysis by SPUR finds that low-income households could actually save money by replacing defunct gas appliances with electric alternatives. This is in addition to operational cost savings of about $120 per year for single-family homes in PG&E territory. But because the rules threaten fossil fuel interests\, the gas industry is lobbying hard to stop these rules from passing. That means we need supporters to turn out in force at the vote and tell the Board that we are ready for a transition to clean electric appliances. \nWhen you RSVP here\, we’ll make sure you get our comment guide and the most up-to-date information. If you can make it to San Francisco on March 15th\, in-person attendance is highly encouraged. We expect the gas industry to try to pack the room and we need to make our presence felt. If you are not comfortable speaking\, we still hope you will show up wearing blue to show your support and witness this historic vote! And if you can’t be there in person\, we still need you! There will be a Zoom link to attend and testify virtually. \nCheck out our public comment guide and talking points here. \n\nMore info.
