SUMMARY:Rooted & Rising: Join the Movement for Youth Power
DESCRIPTION:Frontline Catalysts is deeply rooted in Fruitvale\, Oakland. Over the past five years\, we’ve worked to strengthen a lineage of youth power in the East Bay\, empowering hundreds of young leaders to spearhead the movement for transformative climate justice. This journey has been a collective effort to call to attention how the unnatural has been naturalized and make the invisible visible. \nResponding to a history of environmental racism and redlining\, for half a decade Frontline Catalysts has been guiding youth leaders and our town towards collective healing. By building narrative strategies and organizing power around environmental justice\, Frontline Catalysts goes beyond educating youth on climate change; we empower frontline youth to realize their ability to shape their community’s futures\, even in the face of ongoing dispossession. Since our founding\, we’ve reached hundreds of young people and equipped them with the resources and support to challenge systems that have long excluded their communities. For instance\, youth-led campaigns have successfully pushed the Oakland Unified School District to acknowledge the presence of lead in student’s drinking water and begin taking steps to ensure students have continued access to safe quality water. \nAs we reach a new milestone\, we’re leaning into the art of cyanotype to capture this moment. Just as cyanotype is a process through which direct light imprints on objects to immortalize their shadows\, we’re tracing Frontline Catalysts’ history in this same light\, shining a spotlight on the beautiful work we’ve undertaken together. \nJoin us on October 21st as we reflect on the lasting impression our movement has made and celebrate the energy\, power\, and resilience of our community. Share in this moment as we work to build a more just future and be a part of this growing tapestry of youth power. \nhttps://givebutter.com/empower-frontline-youth

SUMMARY:FFCA Book Club: The Nerd Reich: Silicon Valley Fascism and the War on Democracy Part 1
DESCRIPTION:We will read the book over two meetings. For the first we will be reading Chapters 1-4. The second meeting will be Wednesday Nov 18th from 7-8:30pm \nThe Nerd Reich is a 2026 non-fiction book by American journalist Gil Durán\, who argues that some venture capitalists in Silicon Valley use technologies such as cryptocurrency and artificial intelligence to undermine democracy in the United States in an attempt to establish a new form of governance resembling a corporate dictatorship. To mitigate these threats\, Durán suggests banning crypto\, identifying network state proposals as anti-government extremism\, breaking up tech monopolies\, and regulating AI.\n\nhttps://actionnetwork.org/events/book-club-the-nerd-reich-silicon-valley-fascism-and-the-war-on-democracy-part-1/

SUMMARY:Breathing Room: A regional summit on health\, indoor air quality\, and residential stoves.
DESCRIPTION:Join researchers\, health experts\, policymakers\, advocates\, students\, and community leaders for a half-day summit exploring the ideas and practical solutions shaping healthier indoor environments in the kitchen and beyond. The air we breathe—at home and throughout our neighborhoods—affects our health more than many of us realize. Across the Peninsula and South Bay\, a growing coalition is working to improve air quality by advancing the transition from gas appliances to cleaner electric appliances. \nTogether\, we’ll explore the latest science and technologies to discover what a healthier\, fully electrified region looks like. Hear the latest research on air quality and induction stoves\, learn from public health and energy experts\, listen to community perspectives\, and help chart a path toward cleaner\, healthier air for everyone. \nhttps://hph.stanford.edu/BRS
