SUMMARY:San Jose Data Center Town Hall - District 10
DESCRIPTION:San Jose is experiencing an influx of data center proposals. In early August\, two new data center projects were announced in\, one of them directly adjacent to Coyote Creek. \nCalifornia has 297 data centers and counting. 116 of them are already in the area – 47 in San Jose and 69 in Santa Clara. \nIn response to community inquires on the impact of data centers on the environment and community\, the San Jose City Council directed city staff in May to establish a set of “uniform standards and best practices” for data center projects. The City plans to establish the new data center standards by December of 2026 on all things related to energy consumption\, water usage and water quality\, air quality\, noise\, heat island effects and other impacts.\n\nTime is limited to fully educate the community on the impact of data centers and have our voices heard. We only have three months! \nCouncilmember Casey will be in attendance. \nhttps://www.svyouthclimateaction.org/data-centers

SUMMARY:Oakland Data Center Moratorium Extension Vote
DESCRIPTION:On October 6th\, Oakland became the first city in Alameda County to pass a 45-day moratorium on data center development. Now we need your help to extend the moratorium! \nOn November 10th\, Oakland’s City Council will vote on a proposal to extend the 45-day moratorium to a full year–a move that other cities\, like Richmond\, have approved in recent weeks. This is an important step to make sure the City has time to get meaningful input from our communities\, research the impacts of data centers\, and establish protections and restrictions that work for Oaklanders.
