SUMMARY:Community Forum on Palantir
DESCRIPTION:Join us at Oakstop in the Broadway Gallery Suite for a fascinating program and important dialogue about Palantir’s role in providing the technology to ICE to terrorize immigrants\, creating a surveillance state\, erasing regulations on the tech industry\, and destroying the social safety net in the US – which all adds up to a major threat to our democracy. We will have speakers presenting about national organizing\, as well as local efforts to hold Palantir accountable\, and time to discuss what we can do to fight back. \nhttps://actionnetwork.org/events/community-forum-on-palantir/

SUMMARY:No Data Centers in Richmond: Rally + City Council Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Join CBE\, our partners\, and Richmond community members on Tuesday\, September 15 as we rally at City Hall to urge the Richmond City Council to pass a 45-day moratorium on new data center development. \nA moratorium is the first step towards a ban – it would give Richmond time to study the impacts of data centers and decide what protections our community needs before new projects move forward. We are organizing for a packed City Hall\, strong Richmond public comment\, and a visible show of community support. \n5:00 PM: Community dinner\n 5:30 PM: Rally\n 6:00 PM: City Council meeting \nCome early for food\, campaign signs\, patches\, and materials. After the rally\, we’ll head into City Hall together for the hearing and public comment. You can participate by attending the rally\, giving public comment\, bringing friends and neighbors\, or simply filling a seat and staying through the vote. \nOur immediate demand is clear: Pass the 45-day data center moratorium. \nCan’t attend in person? Email cityclerkdept@ci.richmond.ca.us or give live public comment remotely via zoom (more info coming soon) \nhttps://actionnetwork.org/events/no-data-centers-in-richmond-rally-city-council-meeting?source=direct_link&

SUMMARY:350 Bay Area Transit Picnic
DESCRIPTION:Join the 350 Bay Area Transportation Team to celebrate Transit Month and support the Regional Transit Measure on the November ballot \nWe’ll be at central lawn area (see sketch below) of the Transit Center/Salesforce Park\, a lovely 5+ acre park atop the Transit Center (an easy walk from either SF’s Embarcadero or Montgomery BART/Muni stations). If you haven’t been there\, know that it’s definitely worth the trip! Here is a calendar invite to add to your calendar. \nBring your own finger-food (we’ll also have food\, so mostly bring yourself and friends!) to this celebration and meet-up with other climate activists at this beautiful half-mile long park up above the streets of the Financial District.  We hope to enjoy good weather (but be prepared for fog . . . ) and good company and talk about promoting clean transportation and the importance of supporting the Regional Transit Measure (Measure RTM on five counties’ ballots) in working toward fewer VMTs and GHGs to help meet our climate goals. \nPlease TAKE TRANSIT to get there! Let us know if you are coming\, and we will try to send you flyers to hand out urging people to support the Regional Transit Measure on the November ballot.  The Transit Center is terminus for SF AC Transit\, Golden Gate Transit and SamTrans bus routes\, and it’s any easy walk from Embacadero and Montgomery BART/Muni stations. \nPlease let us know if you’re coming so we can get you some RTM flyers to hand out – Sara in SF –saragreenwald2@gmail.com or Jack in the East Bay–lucerofleck@gmail.com

SUMMARY:Virtual Film Screening: VS. GOLIATH: Port Arthur
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a virutal screening of VS GOLIATH: Port Arthur. What happens when ordinary people take on billion-dollar industries? \nJoin us for a free national screening series of VS. GOLIATH—a powerful new documentary series following everyday people across the United States as they stand up to the fossil fuel industry and fight for the future of their communities. We will be screening the 4 episodes on the first Tuesday of the month from July-October. \nPort Arthur\, Texas is the biggest oil and petrochemical hub you’ve probably never heard of. John Beard Jr. worked in an oil refinery there for decades\, as did his father before him\, in the refinery town of Port Arthur\, Texas. After retiring\, John watches Port Arthur get hollowed out economically\, while his neighbors die from pollution-related illness\, as more dirty plants appear and expand. Experiencing the climate-driven devastation wrought by Hurricane Harvey\, John is called to fight back. He becomes a leading opponent of fossil fuels in his community\, as he takes on the latest extractive frontier threatening Port Arthur and the world: liquid natural gas export terminals. \nAll across the country\, members of Sierra Club\, Food and Water Watch\, People Vs. Fossil Fuels\, Center for Biological Diversity\, Power Up: The Movement Against Fossil Fuels\, Institute for Policy Studies\, Third Act\, Climate Hawks Vote\, 198 Methods\, 350 Local Groups and many more will come together in living rooms\, offices\, and in homes to watch this powerful series of ordinary people going up against the fossil fuel industry. Join us for the first of 4 screenings on the first Tuesday night of the month in July\, August\, September\, October. \nhttps://actionnetwork.org/events/virtual-film-screening-vs-goliath-port-arthur
